The announcement that Toyota GAZOO Racing New Zealand has partnered with the GT7 New Zealand Championship marks another significant step forward for sim racing in New Zealand. The initiative further strengthens the connection between virtual motorsport and real-world racing opportunities, highlighting the growing importance of esports within the wider motorsport landscape.
For TrackSpotTV, the championship represents a familiar and exciting space. Over the years, we have worked extensively with Gran Turismo 7 leagues and communities, delivering professional live broadcasts, commentary, and championship coverage for some of the most competitive sim racing events. Through that experience, we've seen firsthand the calibre of talent emerging from the GT7 platform and the passion that exists within New Zealand's sim racing community.
Our involvement in the previous NZ Esports Racing Series (NZERS) provided further evidence of the value that structured, high-level virtual competition can bring. The series showcased some of New Zealand's best sim racers while creating meaningful engagement between competitors, fans, and industry stakeholders. The broadcasts and competition helped elevate sim racing's profile and demonstrated its potential as a pathway into wider motorsport opportunities.
Toyota GAZOO Racing New Zealand has a long history of supporting driver development and grassroots motorsport through programmes such as the GR86 Championship and Formula Regional Oceania Trophy. Their backing of the GT7 New Zealand Championship reinforces the growing recognition that sim racing is becoming an important part of the modern motorsport ecosystem.
As the championship develops, TrackSpotTV looks forward to continuing its support of competitive sim racing in New Zealand and helping showcase the next generation of virtual racing talent to audiences across the country.
